65 YEARS ON AND STILL STRONG
The Wharehine Group History
The Wharehine Group had its roots set back in the early 1950’s. An agreement between founders Tom Sinclair, John Sinclair, and Brian Dodd created a company that commenced quarrying and earthmoving operations in the vast North Auckland region. Tom having moved out from Belfast, Northern Ireland, his son John and Brian Dodd, friend of John’s, raised £600 each to set up the new company of Wharehine Contractors Ltd.
From these humble beginnings the company today creates employment for about 150 staff and is fully owned by four New Zealanders. Over the years capable, hardworking, and reliable staff have helped the Wharehine reputation grow well outside the district the company first called home, the “Wharehine District”. Wharehine has no overseas investment and the small board allows us to be nimble and agile which is hugely advantageous. Our profits are able to be re-invested into our plant and people. We are proud to be 100% Kiwi owned.
Honesty and fairness to customer, staff, and the community aligned with securing essential primary resources and production is the key success of the Wharehine Group. Without any doubt, it is the company’s connection to the north and its communities, along with the unique team of people and genuine enthusiasm that has allowed the company to evolve with the times.
Taking pride in our work and forever looking forward in seizing new opportunities, the Wharehine motto of “delivering more” encapsulates the extreme diversity of the modern Wharehine way.
